Aesthetic & Comprehensive Dentistry

If you’ve been dreaming of a flawless smile, you’re probably curious about the veneer procedure and what it actually involves. Getting veneers is one of the most transformative cosmetic dentistry treatments available today, but understanding the process can help you feel more confident about your decision. At Aesthetic & Comprehensive Dentistry in Linwood, NJ, Dr. Khurrum Sheikh walks patients through each step of the veneer placement process to ensure beautiful, lasting results.

Your Initial Consultation

The journey to your new smile begins with a comprehensive consultation. During this visit, Dr. Sheikh will examine your teeth, discuss your aesthetic goals, and determine if veneers are the right solution for you. This is the perfect time to ask how veneers are applied and share any concerns you might have. We’ll take digital images and impressions of your teeth to help you visualize your potential results and create a customized treatment plan.

Tooth Preparation

Once you’ve decided to move forward with getting veneers, the next step involves preparing your teeth. Dr. Sheikh will carefully remove a thin layer of enamel from the front surface of each tooth receiving a veneer, typically about 0.5 millimeters. This might sound intimidating, but it’s necessary to ensure your veneers sit flush with your natural teeth and don’t look bulky.

Local anesthesia is used to keep you comfortable throughout this process. After reshaping your teeth, we’ll take precise impressions that will be sent to our trusted dental laboratory, where skilled technicians will craft your custom veneers.

Temporary Veneers

While your permanent veneers are being created, which usually takes two to three weeks, we’ll place temporary veneers on your prepared teeth. These temporaries protect your teeth and give you a preview of your new smile. Though they’re not as durable as your final restorations, they allow you to go about your daily life without any gaps in your smile.

The Veneer Placement Process

When your custom veneers arrive at our Linwood office, you’ll return for the final phase of the veneer procedure. Dr. Sheikh will first place the veneers on your teeth without adhesive to check the fit, shape, and color. This is your opportunity to ensure everything looks exactly as you envisioned.

Once you’re happy with the appearance, Dr. Sheikh will:

  • Clean and polish your teeth to ensure optimal bonding
  • Etch the tooth surface to create a stronger bond
  • Apply a special dental adhesive to each veneer
  • Carefully position each veneer on the corresponding tooth
  • Use a special light to activate the bonding agent and harden the adhesive
  • Remove any excess cement and check your bite

Final Adjustments and Follow-Up

After the veneers are securely bonded, Dr. Sheikh will make any final adjustments needed to ensure your bite feels comfortable and your smile looks natural. You may be asked to return for a follow-up visit after a week or two so we can check how your gums are responding to the veneers and make sure everything feels perfect.
